Cerebellar Asymmetry and Its Relation to Cerebral Asymmetry

چکیده
26 27 Asymmetry of the human cerebellum was investigated using intrinsic functional 28 connectivity. Regions of functional asymmetry within the cerebellum were identified 29 during resting-state functional MRI (fMRI; N=500) and replicated in an independent 30 cohort (N=500). The most strongly right lateralized cerebellar regions fell within the 31 posterior lobe including Crus I and Crus II in regions estimated to link to cerebral 32 association cortex. The most strongly left lateralized cerebellar regions were located in 33 lobules VI and VIII in regions linked to distinct cerebral association networks. 34 Comparing cerebellar asymmetry with independently estimated cerebral asymmetry 35 revealed that the lateralized regions of the cerebellum belong to the same networks that 36 are strongly lateralized in the cerebrum. The degree of functional asymmetry of the 37 cerebellum across individuals was significantly correlated with cerebral asymmetry and 38 varied with handedness. In addition, cerebellar asymmetry estimated at rest predicted 39 cerebral lateralization during an active language task. These results demonstrate that 40 functional lateralization is likely a unitary feature of large-scale cerebrocerebellar 41 networks, consistent with the hypothesis that the cerebellum possesses a roughly 42 homotopic map of cerebral cortex including the prominent asymmetries of association 43 cortex. 44 45 46 47 48 49

Cerebellar asymmetry and its relation to cerebral asymmetry estimated by intrinsic functional connectivity.

متن کاملCrossed cerebellar hypoperfusion indicates the degree of uncoupling between blood flow and metabolism in major cerebral arterial occlusion.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE In patients who have major cerebral arterial occlusive disease with low perfusion, a decrease in cerebral metabolism may be reflected by a reduction in contralateral cerebellar blood flow (crossed cerebellar hypoperfusion). This study was done to investigate whether comparison of the extent of cerebral blood flow asymmetry and crossed cerebellar hypoperfusion could be use...
متن کاملAsymmetry of cerebral gray and white matter and structural volumes in relation to sex hormones and chromosomes
UNLABELLED Whilst many studies show sex differences in cerebral asymmetry, their mechanisms are still unknown. This report describes the potential impact of sex hormones and sex chromosomes by comparing MR data from 39 male and 47 female controls and 33 men with an extra X-chromosome (47,XXY). METHODS Regional asymmetry in gray and white matter volumes (GMV and WMV) was calculated using voxel...
متن کاملVariations of the Circle of Willis in 100 Cadavers in Kerman Province
Background & Aims: The relationship between variations of Willis circle and some cerebrovascular diseases has been shown in previous studies. A few studies have been conducted in Iran on these variations. Methods: This study was performed on 100 recently deceased Iranians due to car accidents who had been referred to Kerman Forensic Medicine Center for autopsy. The length and diameter of cerebr...
متن کاملInvestigating Bhattacharya Hypothesis about the Effect of Dividend Signal on Information Asymmetry Risk: An Earnings Transparency Approach
Information asymmetry in stock market can increase the risk of investment which in turn increases the capital cost of firms. Bhattacharya (1979) proposed a hypothesis that states dividend can act as a powerful signal in order to solve information asymmetry problem. We measured information asymmetry by lack of earnings transparency. Therefore we examine the effect of earnings transparency on cap...
